12 Days of Christmas – The Adventures of Remy – Day 6

Posted on Updated on

All this work this morning! Time for a snack. I follow the woman through the hallway to the kitchen. It is hard not to notice that we are in a very old building, so I start looking to see if there are any signs of mice. So far, no luck. Maybe I will find some hiding in corners in the kitchen!

When we arrive I jump up on the table to get a better view of my surroundings. The old woman puts a kettle on the wood stove and gets two mugs out of the cupboard. It must be tea time.

She looks at me asks “Did you know that we are artists and builders? What do you think of our new mugs? They are in production now and should be ready to go soon. Maybe you were one of the models the potters used to create the design.”

I looked at the mugs and thought that the felines looked particularly handsome. I suppose that the canines are nice, too. But, I don’t drink tea. Maybe she would fill a mug for me with some nice warm milk. In the meantime, I should keep looking for some mice to go with my drink.

chocolate-miceI glanced around the rest of the items on the table and there they were! It was as if she had laid a plate of cookies and mice just for us! But it was kind of funny that the mice didn’t move or seem frightened of me at all. This definitely required closer inspection!

Moving in slowly to take a closer look I could tell that there was something very strange about the mice. They certainly didn’t smell like most of the mice I had smelled before. In fact, they smelled like chocolate! This was definitely a strange and wondrous place!mice-close-up

“I see you stalking my mice, little friend,” said the woman. “Unfortunately, those are not for you. They are treats that I make for my husband, Kris. He loves sweets, especially chocolate, almonds and cherries! The cherries remind me of the rosy glow of his cheeks when he comes in after a sleigh ride.”

Drat! Looks like I am not going to be getting any mice without trying harder!
