Small Holiday Projects

Posted on

Mother Nature has been playing tricks on us with the great weather we have had throughout the fall. So much so, that all of a sudden Thanksgiving is next week and Christmas is just around the corner. Each year it is fun to add something new to your decorations. Maybe you get an ornament for your children each year, maybe you are downsizing and just don’t want to put up a big tree. Here are some fun projects that we have done here in the shop that you may want to consider.

Fold’n Stitch Holiday Ornaments

One of the hot trends in the last year has been the Fold’n Stitch Wreath from Poorhouse Quilt Designs. Well, there is a pattern for ornaments as well! The pattern has instructions for 2 different shapes. Construction is not difficult and aided by use of fusible interfacing. Embellishing the ornaments gives you a chance to let your creativity run wild! Choose different fabric designs to make ornaments that are everything from elegant to country in appearance.

To make construction even easier, precut interfacing is available for both diamond and circle shapes.

Heirloom Ornaments

Whether you want to use up some scrap fabric, feature a theme print, or coordinate your colors, strip piecing construction for this pattern lets you make multiple ornaments very efficiently! You can even save a step and just use a favorite print. The pattern includes templates for four different sizes plus a bonus ornament shape.

Heirloom Ornaments pattern is by Gerri Richards of Cool Cat Creations and is precut 2” strip friendly. Do you want to personalize it more? Try using decorative threads for top stitching or embroidery, or add lace, beads, buttons, ribbon, or glitter!

Christmas Trees

Do you know someone who is reluctant or unable to put up a full size Christmas tree this year? Perhaps they may be out of town over the holidays, or in a small apartment, dorm room or nursing home. Aunties Two Patterns has the answer with a small pair of holiday trees that are easy to construct and decorate, but don’t take up a lot of room.

The trees are made using 2” strips lined with batting, finish at approximately 15” and 8” tall and stand on their own. Add battery powered fairy lights or “Moon Lights”, holiday buttons, beads, or holiday colored studded earrings to fully decorate your tree.
